Inferno is taught by the Brush God Moegami and it allows Amaterasu to control fire. Amaterasu first finds Moegami's constellation above a statue of him in the Calcified Cavern in Moon Cave. By drawing a line from the fire Amaterasu can bend the fire so it follows the line. This is useful for attacking enemies and melting ice. However at first Amaterasu needs a source of fire for it to work. The Kanji for "Crimson" appear on screen after its use.
If the player upgrades to the Secret Brush Technique Fireburst Amaterasu can then summon fire at will simply by drawing the infinity symbol (∞). Also by attaching the Divine Instrument Solar Flare Reflector Amaterasu will have a source of fire with her always.

[edit] Okamiden

The Brush Technique Inferno returns in Okamiden along with Moegami. His constellation is found in the Playhouse. Chibiterasu also learns the Secret Brush Technique Fireburst by buying it from the Shaman in Yakushi Village for 30,000 Yen after three Migrants move in.

[edit] Trivia

The Ink of the Celestial Brush will turn red over an area where Inferno can be used. In Okamiden, it will turn bright orange.
