Kusa Village is found high up on Mount Kamiji, and it overlooks Taka Pass. It is exclusive to Okami. It is well known for it's wind and windmills, most notable the giant one that sits perched above the whole village and blows a Divine Wind all across Nippon. The second dungeon, Gale Shrine is found under this windmill.

When Amaterasu first enters the Village, the windmill has stopped and the air is full of cursed winds which prevent her from using Brush Strokes. Amaterasu must free Princess Fuse from Imps that are possessing her to clean the air.

However in order to access Gale Shrine to restart the Windmill and hopefully find the Serpent Crystal Amaterasu must find all the Eight Canine Warriors and their Satome Power Orbs. Five of them are found in Kusa Village and must be fed but the other three are found in Kamiki Village, Sasa Sanctuary and Agata Forest and Amaterasu must battle them before they will give her their orbs.

A handful of other characters also appear in the village. It is the location of Mr. Bamboo's house. Komuso will challenge Amaterasu here and Susano can be found napping in the bamboo groves. Haruka and her Wanted List are found here.

Kusa Village's full name is Kusanagi Village which is a reference to a sword in a Japanese legend "Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi" ("Grass-Cutting Sword"). The "Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi" is one of the three Imperial Regalia of Japan as it is said to be the sword which Susano-o obtained after defeating the Orochi, finding it in its fourth head. Susano-o named it Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi and gave to Amaterasu as an apology.

The legend states that the sword then got passed down to Prince Yamato-Takeru, a descendant of the God Amaterasu. One day, during a hunting expedition, Yamato-Takeru became trapped in a field when his enemies set fire to the grass around him. As he tried to cut through the burning grass he realised that his sword had the power to control the winds and he used this to blow the fire back at his enemies, killing them. He then renamed it "Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi"

It is also the sword of which the Weapon set, Glaives, are based on and the Blade of Kusanagi Glaive itself.

Kusa is also a type of grass.

[edit] Trivia

  • When Amaterasu travels through a cursed Kusa Village, the trail of flowers after her will be withered and dying.
